Before you begin
-
An administrator has published the resource or vault item in a Request Policy that covers you. See Request Policy.
Ask for access
-
Open Requests and click New Request.
-
The catalog lists what you may ask for under Resources (n) and Vault Items (n). Each row shows how many accounts are offered; an item you already asked for shows Already requested.
-
Pick the item. Choose the Account if more than one is offered, set How long do you need it?, and enter the Reason (shown as Reason (required) when the policy asks for one).
-
Click Send request. If the policy approves automatically, the button reads Get access and access opens at once.
The request appears under Requests → Mine as Waiting for Approval. Once it is approved, the resource appears in Resources with a Connect button, or the vault item's fields can be revealed, until the window closes.
When nothing is offered, the dialog says There is nothing for you to request: no Request Policy covers you, or you can already reach everything in it.
Other ways a request is raised
-
Connect on a resource that requires approval.
-
Revealing a vault field whose Vault Access Policy requires approval (Request Access).
-
A shell command held by a privileged command rule. See Privileged Commands.
-
A database statement held by Database Rules, an endpoint elevation (EPM), a certificate operation or a script run.
